Animals are not objects that can be killed or sold or treated the way that they are so often. Raising awareness can only go so far though, many advocates for ending this cause take donations and volunteers to help injured animals and find better means of patrolling on the reservations to present legal actions towards illegal hunters. What can be done to stop this? Raising awareness is one of the best ways to educated our community and our society in general about the trophy hunting that takes places in the eastern part of the world. This is just one horror story that has been caused by trophy hunting. One of Africa’s most famous lions that went by the name of Cecil was speared by a hunter and survived, but for 10 years lived brutally injured and died when he was unable to provide food or hunting for himself.
Another large issue that has been discovered due to trophy huntings is that many of the animals that are unable to be killed live their entire lives in pain due to the injuries caused by the hunters. Safari Club International is a company that promotes the senseless killing of these animals for trophies, they offer clients a competition to collect 50 trophies on a reservation and profits hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars from their clients. This means that there is absolutely no need for the aimless killing of these animals. Supporters of big game hunting overseas claim that trophy hunting contributes to a major sanction of African country’s economies, but a study formulated by the international humane society revealed that only 0.3% of African country’s economy. 126,000 animals are illegally hunted every year through out different parts of Africa.
One of the reasons this issue is so prevalent is because American hunters pay hundreds of thousands to hunt and bring back their trophies from the animals. The way the animals are baited and then captured gives the animals zero chance of surviving, the hunters completely forget about the game or sport of hunting and utilize illegal practices to obtain their trophies. Each year, thousands of wild animals are captured and killed and their parts or entire bodies are utilized as “trophies.” These parts are take from animals in Africa while they are living on animal preservations and the killing and capturing of animals is completely illegal.The animals are followed and then baited into capture and then killed, some of the times hunters will sedate the animals and remove tusks or horns meaning the animal has to live its life with out a vital part of their anatomy.
